A New Year, A New You

All of us want something to be different, better in 2008 than we had in 2007. What can it be for you?

I went to Barnes and Nobles bookstore today with my oldest son and his girlfriend. I did not have an agenda. There was no need to visit the store, but since I love books I wanted to see what had come out in the last month that I might enjoy reading. I did find a couple of books that I thought would make me laugh so I bought them.

Now that may not be an issue with some who read this. However I have several hundred books already. So why is this an issue for me?

Yesterday, my best friend, told me she had just boxed up several hundred books and given them away. Now, as organized as I am, you might think I applauded her gumption in giving away books she really liked. Truly, I do applaud the action. But it scared me too. I thought to myself, could I go upstairs to my bookcases and actually do that?

So today, I was thinking about this in the bookstore. Thinking about my favorite authors, whether they were writing anything I wanted to read today and if I had the gumption to clear my shelves of older books that, because I remember almost every fictional thing I read, are just gathering dust.

So my New Year’s Resolutions (of which there are several) include clearing the deadwood from my paperback collection.

I have to say, I will be keeping the series’ that I read. Christine Feehan. Suzanne Brockman. Well, in all honesty I can’t get rid of their books. However, I have a ton of books that need to seek new homes.

What is your challenge for 2008?

Oh yes, by the way, my first resolution is to get my newsletter off the ground! Here’s wishing that you all would write in with current issues you are having!

Happy New Year!
