Timewise

Sometimes taking your time doing something means it gets done to the best of your ability.

Other times it just means you have been procrastinating!

So today, while I am working on a game plan for a client I decided to update you all on my son!

I brought him home from Army Basic Training three weeks ago. Hmmm, should that have said it all? No, honestly, the trip was mind-blowing. I arrived at Louisville Airport at 9am and proceeded to try to figure out how to get to Fort Knox. Alex, my son, had told me it was a 45 minute bus ride. Well everyone knows that buses are notorious for going slow, so I extrapolated (Yes, I figured it out) that a cab or my own car would get there faster. Duh, no it doesn’t. Even going 70 in a 55 mph (God bless that cabbie) we were still late and arrived 10 minutes before the graduation ceremony was over.

So here’s the rub. Believe me, it did rub the wrong way. It cost me $100 one way. Blew my mind how much that cab ride cost me. Of course I cut it in half on the way back by making sure there were several others in the cab/van with us.

But that day will live forever in my mind. You see, all these kids (none over 18) were all dressed alike, pretty much the same height and weight and yes I think you guessed it by now. I did not recognize my son. I didn’t see him anywhere at all. After following the crowd to their barracks, looking for him in the view finder of my brand new 9 megapixel camera I still couldn’t find him.

So yes, at this point I was forcing myself to not panic, not go up to anyone and ask if I was in the right place even. I moved back to a wall and waited and waited, and waited. Until finally the last group of Privates came down from the barracks to retrieve their belongings and get ready to leave.

It was with great pleasure (yes I know, it lasted a few hours) that my son found me, grabbed me up in a bear hug and standing there in his “A” uniform, all spiffy and handsome told me he loved me. Shoot if I didn’t want to cry to see him looking all grown up. How very proud I was of him. He’d made platoon guide, squad leader, bookkeeper and so on. I am still proud of him for his accomplishments. He is very much a leader if he’ll let himself be one.

That’s it for tonight. Soon, I’ll be back on track with this blog!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Denise
