Gear Up, Get Ready, Fire Up Your Motivation

Hello all,

I am hoping you are enjoying the weekend! Personally I am going to enjoy the entire weekend with yard work, house work and writing!

One of my goals is to get published, in both fiction and non-fiction. So now you know a long term goal of mine.

My question for you is: What is your long term goal. I want you to write me with your goals so get busy writing down things you want to accomplish. Write down the short term and the long term. Send me your emails to denise@progressiveorganizingsolutions.com

Remember though that even one goal, whether small or large is the first step to achieving the goal. You have to recognize the goal, write it down to make it solid in your mind (something that is achievable ) and then the second step is to write down the steps to achieve that goal.

1. Write down your goals

2. Write down the steps that it will take to achieve your goals. (start with one)

So why is this the topic of my blog to you today?

BECAUSE! No, really because can be a justifiable reason (as a parent its as good as Because I said so)

Here’s the real reason: For all the bigwigs out there that are making tons of money off of “you” for telling you how to do things, how to achieve great wealth, how to get to the next level, THEY ALL SAY the same thing.

What Brian Tracy, and all the others out there tell us to do is to recognize a goal by writing it down. They then tell us to write down how to do the things (steps) that will make that “dream” or goal come true. They all recognize that none of us get anywhere by sitting on our tush, just thinking about what comes next to make us better at our careers. They also all write their goals down and sometimes, just by doing so set into motion the method for achieving what they think they want.

So for the next question. How does this apply to organizing. Come on now, think hard! If you can think of a goal, if you can write it down, if you can think of a progressive method of achieving it, do you not think that you have achieved an organized method for achieving that goal?

Of course, I might be wrong! But being organized is thinking a problem through (whether that problem is getting organized in your home, your office or somewhere else). We face our “messy” desks every day always thinking there has to be a better system out there.

What if I told you that the best system is one where you build into your schedule the time it takes to put away the things you are working on. Do you think that would be impossible?

A few weeks ago I visited a new client and found that the simplest change in the way they approached a problem, solved the problem. If it were that easy wouldn’t you want to do the same?

My challenge to you this week(end) is to recognize a goal (email it to me or email your list to me) and then take the time to write out a couple of steps that would help you to achieve that goal. If you email me I definitely will email you back! Let’s track it and see how it goes!

For now, have a great weekend and I look forward to your emails.

Timewise

Sometimes taking your time doing something means it gets done to the best of your ability.

Other times it just means you have been procrastinating!

So today, while I am working on a game plan for a client I decided to update you all on my son!

I brought him home from Army Basic Training three weeks ago. Hmmm, should that have said it all? No, honestly, the trip was mind-blowing. I arrived at Louisville Airport at 9am and proceeded to try to figure out how to get to Fort Knox. Alex, my son, had told me it was a 45 minute bus ride. Well everyone knows that buses are notorious for going slow, so I extrapolated (Yes, I figured it out) that a cab or my own car would get there faster. Duh, no it doesn’t. Even going 70 in a 55 mph (God bless that cabbie) we were still late and arrived 10 minutes before the graduation ceremony was over.

So here’s the rub. Believe me, it did rub the wrong way. It cost me $100 one way. Blew my mind how much that cab ride cost me. Of course I cut it in half on the way back by making sure there were several others in the cab/van with us.

But that day will live forever in my mind. You see, all these kids (none over 18) were all dressed alike, pretty much the same height and weight and yes I think you guessed it by now. I did not recognize my son. I didn’t see him anywhere at all. After following the crowd to their barracks, looking for him in the view finder of my brand new 9 megapixel camera I still couldn’t find him.

So yes, at this point I was forcing myself to not panic, not go up to anyone and ask if I was in the right place even. I moved back to a wall and waited and waited, and waited. Until finally the last group of Privates came down from the barracks to retrieve their belongings and get ready to leave.

It was with great pleasure (yes I know, it lasted a few hours) that my son found me, grabbed me up in a bear hug and standing there in his “A” uniform, all spiffy and handsome told me he loved me. Shoot if I didn’t want to cry to see him looking all grown up. How very proud I was of him. He’d made platoon guide, squad leader, bookkeeper and so on. I am still proud of him for his accomplishments. He is very much a leader if he’ll let himself be one.

That’s it for tonight. Soon, I’ll be back on track with this blog!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Denise

Get Motivated!

What is the one thing that truly prevents us from doing anything? For me it could be being interrupted constantly! Or, it could be working alone in my office and not having interaction with other organizers on a daily basis.

As we walk through our daily lives we have to realize that to accomplish anything we have to have the right mindset.

That institution or constitution that leads us to our final goal.

This evening I attended the National Association of Professional Organizers – North Carolina meeting in Durham, North Carolina. I had never attended one of these meetings and to be honest, up until a year ago I had never heard of them. A group of organizers who get together once a month for dinner, news, offers and ideas.

I, as most of you know, am a Paper Tiger Authorized Consultant! This evening I had the opportunity to listen to my favorite speaker, Barbara Hemphill. A dynamic and honest woman who has created what has to be the ultimate of businesses.

As I sat there I realized once again why I am intrigued with this business and how much I love helping people. The “together we are better” motto that Barbara believes in is truly awesome.

As for me, I once again listened with my heart and learned more, hoping I will retain everything I heard.

I will expound more on this tomorrow I hope, with wonderful ideas to help my clients, friends and hope to count you among those who religiously read this newsletter/blog.

For now, have a wonderful end of the week and great weekend.
